It was originally about my dog Sam, a loyal and somewhat eccentric golden retriever—or more accurately, the bond we shared.

Over the years, the book changed. Again. And again. And again.

Nearly three decades later, it’s become the story of my lifelong search for God through loss, love, tragedy, and triumph—told through the lives of the five dogs who walked beside me through it all.
